CUTIS and its Environmental Strategy

CUTIS Environmental Strategy is one of the cross-cutting topics of the Project. It stipulates interventions to increase trade and investment should not exacerbate the deterioration of Ukraine’s environment. The CUTIS project is committed to minimizing the potential adverse environmental risks of the anticipated growth in economic activities resulted from increasing trade between Ukraine and Canada (e.g. increased use of natural resources, increased GHG production, and elevated environmental pollution)

Goal

Preliminary assessments of production facilities at small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to identify inefficient use of resources, developing technical solutions and if implemented, they could optimize production processes and reduce the resources and materials consumed

Target objects

2 enterprises in light industry

RECP Centre's role

In 2020, the RECP Centre joined the powerful and well-known CUTIS project in Ukraine.
Within the cooperation agreement framework between the RECP Centre and the CUTIS project, the Centre undertook preassessments under UNIDO’s RECP methodology

The reports highlighted:

  • Analysis of current and historical data on resource efficiency (energy, water, material consumption, emissions and wastewater generation)
  • Benchmarking. Comparing the parameters of the assessed company with domestic and foreign similar enterprises and the world's best practices
  • Developed recommendations to implement simple measures that might improve resource efficiency and environmental performance
  • Guidelines to perform an in-depth/detailed assessment to further develop other resource efficiency measures
