“Co-processing in cement kilns” – a new training conducted for leading cement manufacturers and ministerial officials and municipalities
Dirk Hengevoss, the RECP international expert, a member of the University of Applied Sciences in Northwest Switzerland (FHNW) was invited to manage the training process and deliver the material.
The training was focused on promoting waste management practice in Ukraine basing on best world practices. The invited participants learnt about modern facilities for industrial and domestic wastes processing in cement kilns.
The training successfully highlighted 5 topics and these are:
- Introduction: state-of-the art approaches and international law and practice in waste processing (PPT presentation, video-presentation);
- Waste management practice in Ukraine (PPT presentation, practicals);
3.Cement production in Ukraine (PPT presentation, group work and discussion);
- Co-processing (PPT presentation, group work and discussion);
- Current legislation (PPT presentation, group work and discussion).
Active discussions among the participants made the training session lively and turned it to an interesting and informative event. The discussions were mostly centered around ways to improve the legislation on waste management, perms and regulations that would integrate the interest of all interested parties, namely, the cement manufacturers, profile ministries and agencies, public and NGOs. However, at the end of the training all the participants concluded mutually that industrial development producing less stress on the environment should be the priority for everyone.
The Ukrainian Cement Manufacturers Association “Ukrcement” supported and promoted the training as the co-organizer, while the Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre within the framework of UNIDO Project “Promoting the Adaptation and Adoption of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) through the Establishment and Operation of a Cleaner Production Centre (CPC) in Ukraine” acted as the main training organizer.
