VISIONS AND PATHWAYS FOR CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN UKRAINE

The first, but not the last, panel of experts “Visions and pathways for Circular Economy in Ukraine” is over!

Today, on 7 December, national and international experts in Circular Economy (CE) gathered online to discuss scenarios, visions and pathways for the future CE development in Ukraine.

It is worth mentioning that the panel was preceded by an expert survey specially designed by experienced UNIDO experts from abroad. More than 100 respondents in Ukraine provided their answers to a not so simple questionnaire. The processed answers formed the basis for today’s meeting. On the basis of the responses, scenarios for the future CE development in Ukraine were developed and the Key Product Value Chains (KPVC) were selected.

Today, UNIDO and Ukrainian CE experts worked together in interactive sessions to develop proposals for four proposed scenarios of future CE development in Ukraine, as well as changes in KPVC in these scenarios and the drivers.

All participants showed great engagement and interest. Each group had its own moderator who facilitated the process and at the end of the event gave a brief summary of the developments in their target group.

The results of the panel of experts:
     – the results of the scoping report, the scenario report and the survey summarised;
     – the selected KPVCs (Key Product Value Chains), using a scenario-based approach, “future-proofed”;
     – the key visions, transformations, pathways and enablers for the selected KPVCs explored;
     – the enablers for the overall CE agenda in Ukraine examined.

A total of 34 participants attended the meeting: 20 women (59%) and 14 men (41%).

The panel was organized as part of the “Exploratory strategic foresight for Circular Economy in Ukraine” activity under EU4Environment, and with funding from the European Union and the German Government.

This activity is conducted in close collaboration with the “Circular Economy – Promotion of sustainable production and consumption patterns in Ukraine” project funded by the EU Delegation to Ukraine.
