LESSONS LEARNED FROM COOPERATION IN THE EASTERN PARTNERSHIP FRAMEWORK (CONFERENCE IN BRUSSELS)

On 13-14 March, the regional conference “Building the ground for a green economy: Lessons learned from cooperation in the Eastern Partnership framework” was held in Brussels as part of the EU-funded EU4Environment Action. The event brought together representatives from the European Commission, UNIDO, UNEP and Eastern Partnership countries. The event provided a platform for sharing results, experiences and lessons learnt during the implementation of the Action.

Despite the intense agenda, many important issues were covered, the most important being the promotion of the transition to a green economy, sustainable development and sustainable public procurement, the single market for green products, etc. The event also presented cases of pilot implementation of the PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) initiative in the EaP member states and discussed challenges and difficulties in implementing this initiative.

Speaking on behalf of the RECP Centre in Brussels, our colleague (who joined the conference live) shared her experience of promoting the PEF initiative in Ukraine and organising trainings and an awareness-raising seminar on the subject, which eventually allowed the selection of the best PEF experts and pilot enterprises to showcase the implementation of the initiative.

Representatives of the pilot companies (Prime Snack and Alfa-HT) brought their products to Brussels to visually enhance their presentations and shared their experiences and impressions of participating in the EU4Environment Action, in particular the PEF initiative.

At the conference, the European Commission representative gave a clear signal that joint efforts will continue and that new horizons and new activities lie ahead for Ukraine and other partner countries.
