Chemical Leasing: an intelligent and integrated business-model

“Chemical Leasing: an intelligent and integrated business-model for sustainable chemicals management“ – that was the seminar of today, 5th April, 2018, taking place in one of the most appropriate lecture halls belonging to Chemistry Engineering Department, Igor Sikorsky KPI. University teachers, post-graduate students and others willing to get to know about ChL and its basic ideas and tasks made up the audience.  

The Executive Director of the Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre started the workshop with an opening speech and dwelt a bit on UNIDO project in Ukraine, its fundamental goals where promoting ChL model implementation in the national industry is one of the key ones.

Anastasia Kutuzova, the RECP Centre’s ChL chief expert and the main seminar speaker, reported on the UNIDO’s World Chemical Leasing Program, its goals – minimizing negative environmental footprint, maintaining competitiveness and ensuring sustainability. According to UNIDO’s definition, ‘Chemical leasing (ChL) is Chemical leasing is a service-oriented business model that shifts the focus from increasing sales volume of chemicals, toward a value-added approach. Within Chemical Leasing business models, the responsibility of the producer and service provider is extended and may include the management of the entire life cycle of the chemical’. As a result, the economic interest of all participants is focused on process optimization and reducing the use of chemicals.

Chemical leasing strives for a win-win situation. It aims to increase the efficient use of chemicals while reducing the risks of chemicals, and protecting human health. It improves the economic and environmental performance of participating companies, and enhances their access to new markets. Key elements of successful chemical leasing business models are proper benefit sharing, high-quality standards and mutual trust between participating companies.

Informing the participants with the Fourth World Chemical Leasing Award, to be held on November 6, 2018, was one of the integral part of the ChL PPT presentation. The speaker delivered the details about application submitting etc. In case any University students or teachers submit for the Award, it will be the first case ever in the University history and maybe even Ukraine.
