GREEN CHEMISTRY DEMO DAY 2025: INNOVATIONS SHAPING A GREENER TOMORROW

 

 

 

 

On September 16, Ukraine witnessed an event that proved: the future of chemistry is green. The final stage of the Green Chemistry Accelerator — Green Chemistry Demo Day 2025 — brought together six ambitious teams that had been working tirelessly for three months, turning scientific concepts into real business solutions.

The Green Chemistry Accelerator is implemented within the international project Global GreenChem Innovation and Network Program, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), carried out by UNIDO in partnership with the Yale Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering (USA), and executed in Ukraine by the RECP Centre.

The Atmosphere of the Event
Green Chemistry Demo Day was not just the culmination of the program, but a true celebration of innovation and ideas with the power to transform industry. Teams presented their developments to experts, investors, and business representatives. Each pitch proved that green chemistry is not an abstraction but a real path toward sustainable development, cleaner production, and responsibility to future generations.

The participants put maximum effort into their projects, which was evident in every presentation. Their ideas — from new materials to recycling and environmental restoration technologies — did not go unnoticed. The jury highlighted the high level of preparation and the practical value of the solutions. The gap between teams was minimal, and each of them deserves recognition as a potential driver of the green economy.

Voices of the Speakers

  • Paul Anastas, Director of the Yale Center for Green Chemistry and Green Engineering, emphasized that Ukraine’s participation in the global initiative demonstrates its commitment to innovation and sustainable development.

  • Lars Ratjen, Manager of the Global GreenChem Innovation and Network Programme, expressed strong support for Ukrainian startups and encouraged them to continue their work.

  • Andrii Vorfolomeiev, Chair of the Board of the Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre and a jury member, stressed the importance of practical application of ideas.

In the session “Global GreenChem Accelerator: Progress and Vision”, the following speakers took the floor:

  • Onyeka Obioсha, Director of the Global GreenChem Accelerator, presented the vision for the international initiative and outlined key global achievements.

  • Olena Tabachuk, Program Manager of the Green Chemistry Business Accelerator at the Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre, shared the outcomes of the program in Ukraine and highlighted the importance of supporting startups.

On the prospects for green chemistry in Ukraine, the following speakers delivered remarks:

  • Matthew Moroney, Director of Startup & Mentor Engagement, Global GreenChem Accelerator,

  • Andrii Vorfolomeiev, Chair of the Board of the Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre,

  • Inna Maliukova, Head of the Sikorsky Challenge Ukraine National Innovation Ecosystem (SCU).

Winners of Demo Day

  • 1st place – TerraVita Recovery (Sumy)
    Developing an organo-mineral fertilizer to restore the functionality of degraded soils in zones affected by war, ecological, and industrial stress.

  • 2nd place – UASilica (Kyiv)
    Creating bio-adsorbents from waste to help agricultural and energy companies eliminate costs associated with waste disposal.

  • 3rd place – Felmar’s Lab (Vinnytsia)
    Developing BioCell — an innovative biocomposite made from textile waste using deep eutectic solvents (DES).

Green Chemistry — Ukraine’s Innovative Path
Green Chemistry Demo Day proved that Ukrainian teams have the talent, determination, and global vision. They are working to ensure that technologies do not harm nature but help restore it. This is a true example of how science and entrepreneurship come together for a future where economy and ecology go hand in hand.

This time three winners were chosen, but in fact, the real victory belongs to all of Ukraine, since every idea contributed to the shared goal — making our country and the world cleaner and more sustainable.
