“Co-processing in cement kilns” – a new training conducted for leading cement manufacturers and ministerial officials and municipalities

Dirk Hengevoss, the RECP international expert, a member of the University of Applied Sciences in Northwest Switzerland (FHNW) was invited to manage the training process and deliver the material.

The training was focused on promoting waste management practice in Ukraine basing on best world practices. The invited participants learnt about modern facilities for industrial and domestic wastes processing in cement kilns.

The training successfully highlighted 5 topics and these are:

  1. Introduction: state-of-the art approaches and international law and practice in waste processing (PPT presentation, video-presentation);
  2. Waste management practice in Ukraine (PPT presentation, practicals);

3.Cement production in Ukraine (PPT presentation, group work and discussion);

Global Chemical Leasing Award 2018

UNIDO is happy to announce the fourth Global Chemical Leasing Award. The ceremony will take place on 6 November 2018 in Vienna, Austria. It will be part of the Green Chemistry Conference 2018 within the Trio Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU) programme, “Smart and Sustainable Europe”, held during Austria’s EU Presidency.

Companies and individuals are invited to submit applications for the award in three categories:  case studies (for companies), special innovation, and research. Produce more, consume less: UNIDO Project outcomes in Kyiv region

On December 14, 2017 the Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre organized and successfully carried out the conference “Resource Efficiency Outcomes In Kyiv Region”. Among various goals the conference key focus was concentrated on disseminating the experience in RECP concept implementation at industrial enterprises; demonstrating the best achievements and outcomes of the UNIDO international technical assistance project in Kyiv region; discussing project focal areas for further development based on the requests from local companies and industries.

Serhii Shukaiev, deputy head of the international cooperation department at Igor Sikorsky KPI noted in his opening speech: “The UNIDO Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Project has become very significant and symbolic for our University. Nowadays RECP Centre acts as an important participant and component of the innovative ecosystem that is currently being developed at Igor Sikorsky KPI.”

The vice chairman of the Swiss Cooperation Office Mr. Nicolas Guigas in his welcoming speech noted that the Project gained fruitful results. “And we expect successful cooperation will go on In the future. The RECP Centre’s activities are very important and crucial for Ukraine, in the first place. Consume less and produce more is the slogan of Ukrainian industry. Ukraine, like other countries worldwide, has been trying to support and push forward the industrialization process, ‘cause the mankind today addresses such a huge challenge as global warming,” Nicolas Gigas added to his speech. National industries need almost 1000 RECP experts

On November 21, 2017, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (Kyiv) hosted the information workshop (WS) for university lecturers “Integrating RECP Course into Higher Education: International Prospects”. To ensure the workshop run well the RECP Centre undertook its organization and supervision.

The teachers and lecturers from Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (Kyiv), Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University, NTUU “Kharkiv Politechnic Institute” (Kharkiv), Lviv National Forestry University, National Agrarian University in Bila Tserkva (Kyiv region) etc.

Yurii Yakymenko, the first pro-rector of the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” started the WS and stressed on the importance of the issue discussed. He pointed out the topicality of RECP integration into university curriculum in view of the present environmental situation within Ukraine and worldwide, the situation that leaves much room to be desired.

RECP best practice at V International Trade Fair “Industrial ecology-2017” in Kyiv

The Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre hold an information seminar for vendors “Implementation of resource efficient and cleaner production in Ukraine: best practices” within V International Trade Fair “Industrial ecology-2017” on November 7, 2017.

The audience was presented by company management, research institutions, university lecturers, environmental associations etc.

Dr. Johannes Fresner, Geschäftsführer/Managing Partner, STENUM GmbH, opened the first half of the seminar with his PPT presentation “RECP low-cost measures for industrial enterprises”. He shared his own experience in implementing low-cost measures aimed at energy and resource efficiency at the enterprises in Austria and worldwide.

Andrii Vorfolomeiev, Deputy National Coordinator of the Demonstration Project “Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production” of the “Greening Economies in the Eastern Neighbourhood” (EaP GREEN) Programme“ took the floor after J.Fresner and offered a presentation “Resource efficient and cleaner production: approaches and examples of successful implementation at Ukrainian enterprises”. Being the RECP national expert he successfully demonstrated a number of interesting RECP implementation examples targeted on improving environmental image of the national enterprises.  

 V International Trade Fair “Industrial ecology-2017” is focused on implementing innovative technical solutions in industry to finally reach environmental safety. The Fair is supported by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine and is hosted by the International Exhibition Centre. 

Energy efficiency at Kharkiv-based companies – European practice

“We have been empowered with a special mission to demonstrate people that systemic approach does produce benefit whatever activity or issue one has chosen to deal with”, reported Serhii Khudobin, Project coordinator in Kharkiv region. “It is absolutely obvious everybody is aware of urgent need to modernize production lines thus guaranteeing good and substantial profit. Kharkiv region has been traced with positive reputation of the one pertaining high-skilled professional staff capable to address any challenge. However, in the course of time we all are getting used to many things around us and lose our “sharp eye”, our capability to see that changes have already become a “must have” need today; moreover, maybe we’re even running late with these changes. And here we show up! We can help and provide necessary tips. It should be noted that scientists and engineers’ involvement in conducting technical audits is a good chance to get a part-time job. That is why we do invite such professionals to join our National Expert Pool. All they need to do is get trained and get certified. The first expert pool team has been already trained, but as long as we keep on expanding our clients’ database, we foresee we’ll need more and more experts.

The Experts shared information about RECP in Ukraine

The press-briefing with UNIDO representatives discussed the results of the UNIDO project “Promoting the Adaptation and Adoption of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) through the Establishment and Operation of a Cleaner Production Centre (CPC) in Ukraine” and took place at the press center of LIGABusinessInform Information Agency.

The briefing was held on the eve of the High-Level Expert Group Meeting (EGM) “Resource Efficiency and Cleaner Production Policy: Fostering Green Industries in Ukraine”. The event will be hosted by Parkovyi Exhibition Center, on October 12th. The EGM aims to discuss and agree on requirements for the implementation of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production in Ukraine to facilitate a regulatory framework in order to support green industries development.
