On June 18, 2025, the webinar “GREEN SOLVENTS: HOW TO CHOOSE AND IMPLEMENT IN PRACTICE” took place as part of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) project “Global Green Chemistry Innovation and Network Program (GreenChem),” supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

Fifty-five participants in a webinar dedicated to green solvents and their use in industry learned about the applications of solvents in scientific and manufacturing activities, as well as the hazards associated with traditional solvents. Read More

GREEN CHEMISTRY ACCELERATOR KICKS OFF IN KYIV: 8 STARTUP TEAMS PRESENTED THEIR INNOVATIONS

 

 

 

 

The three-day kick-off session of the Green Chemistry Accelerator has successfully concluded in Kyiv, bringing together eight startup teams from across Ukraine who showcased their innovative projects in sustainable chemistry. Held in a hybrid format, the event marked the beginning of a three-month journey toward transforming early-stage ideas into scalable, impactful solutions.

The program gathered 18 expert mentors from the businesses, science, ecology, and sustainable development. They attentively listened to each team’s presentation and began considering potential collaborations. GREEN CHEMISTRY FOR INDUSTRY: INNOVATIONS AND TOOLS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

 

 

 

 

On December 11 (2024), over 90 participants took part in the online training, which was a pleasant surprise for the organizers. This event confirmed again that interest in Green Chemistry is growing with each event!

The last training in 2024 was dedicated to innovations and tools for sustainable development in Green Chemistry. The trainers—Olena Tabachuk, Greenchem Business Accelerator Program Manager at the RECP Centre, and Oleksandr Khokhotva, Chemical Management Expert at the RECP Centre—shared valuable experiences and inspiring ideas.

SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS IN GREEN CHEMISTRY: BREAKING BARRIERS, CREATING CHANGE

This November, the Global GreenChem Hackathon within the Global GreenChem Innovation and Network Program brought together talented undergraduates, postgraduates, academics, and innovators to tackle pressing industrial chemistry challenges. With an innovative reverse pitching approach, this event flipped the traditional hackathon, with industries posing specific green chemistry problems for teams to solve. Participants addressed various challenges, from creating environmentally friendly solvents and catalysts to designing sustainable synthesis routes—transforming ideas into solutions for a greener future. 

Held from 1–3 November 2024 as a highlight of the XIII Sikorsky Challenge Festival of Innovative Projects, the event brought together 40 participants in 8 teams, all committed to advancing sustainable chemistry. Read More

The Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre continues to actively promote the Green Chemistry (GreenChem) concept in Ukraine and introduce its approaches and practices to all stakeholders. Therefore, another online information event ‘GREEN CHEMISTRY ALTERNATIVES: THE PATH TO A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE’ was organized (25 October 2024) as part of the Global Green Chemistry Innovation and Network Program (GreenChem) funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

GREEN CHEMISTRY FACILITATOR TEAM FORMED IN UKRAINE

The Green Chemistry Train-the-Facilitators Workshops of the Global Green Chemistry Innovation and Networking Program (GreenChem) is over!

The team of future facilitators was almost unchanged for 5 days (6,7,8,13-14, 2024) – more than 40 participants. They showed great interest and actively shared their experiences and thoughts on sustainable development and Green Chemistry.

The trainers of the first training day were Lars Ratjen and Hanno Erythropel, researchers at the Center for Green Chemistry & Green Engineering at Yale University (USA). Lars Ratjen is also the program manager of the GreenChem project. During the first training day, participants focused on sustainable development, discussing planetary boundaries, socio-economic trends, the UN SDGs, and learning to distinguish between true sustainability and greenwashing. Speakers also explained how modern chemistry can become green and highlighted the need for change in the industry. Read More

UKRAINE’S CIRCULAR RECONSTRUCTION

 

 

 

Recovering Ukraine’s infrastructure and revitalising its economy requires a forward-looking approach that prioritises minimising environmental impact and at the same time opens up new opportunities for businesses and society as a whole.

On 17 April 2024, as part of the World Circular Economy Forum, the accelerator session ‘Ukraine’s Circular Reconstruction’ under the EU4Environment Action was organised by UNIDO and the European Commission Directorates General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DGNEAR). The participants of the session negotiated the opportunities and challenges for ensuring circularity in Ukraine’s recovery, with a focus on economic recovery and infrastructure reconstruction.

Nadiia Bihun, UA Deputy Minister Ministry of Economy of Ukraine, in her speech focused on the implementation of circular economy approaches in the national economy plan. Read More

“GREEN CHEMISTRY – A NEW DRIVER FOR BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT” –  was the title of a webinar held on 24 April, and organized on 24 April 2024 by the RECP Centre in Ukraine in collaboration with the Center for Green Chemistry & Green Engineering at Yale University under GEF-funded UNIDO project “The Global GreenChem Innovation and Network Program”. 

Over 50 participants joined the online event and showed high interest and activity during the meeting, especially in the interactive Q&A session. Read More

LESSONS LEARNED FROM COOPERATION IN THE EASTERN PARTNERSHIP FRAMEWORK (CONFERENCE IN BRUSSELS)

 

 

 

On 13-14 March, the regional conference “Building the ground for a green economy: Lessons learned from cooperation in the Eastern Partnership framework” was held in Brussels as part of the EU-funded EU4Environment Action. The event brought together representatives from the European Commission, UNIDO, UNEP and Eastern Partnership countries. The event provided a platform for sharing results, experiences and lessons learnt during the implementation of the Action. Read More
