TRANSFORMATION PATHWAYS FOR THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN UKRAINE INDUSTRY

 

The second interactive Panel of Experts “Transformation Pathways for the circular economy in Ukraine industry” worked on the fourth stage – ‘Transformation pathways’ – of the 4-stage foresight exercise. It took place in a hybrid format on 24 January 2024, and explored the connections between visions and pathways for the future development of the CE in Ukraine, and defined the roles and actions of the key stakeholders as the main agents of change in this process.
In interactive groups, the participants explored the impacts, barriers and opportunities for key product value chains, including waste management, packaging, construction, electronics, textiles and food. Read More

Under the European Union-funded, EU4Environment Action, the National conference on “Circular Economy For Green Recovery of Ukraine” took place on 19 December 2023, in a hybrid format. This year’s event provided a platform to further discuss the challenges and opportunities for the country’s green recovery, which were presented at the Green Recovery in Ukraine conference organised by the European Union in Vilnius at the end of November. THE FIRST EU4ENVIRONMENT FORESIGHT PANEL OF EXPERTS IN UKRAINE

The first online expert discussion “Visions and pathways for Circular Economy in Ukraine” took place on 7 December 2023. The event was organised as part of the “Exploratory strategic foresight for Circular Economy in Ukraine” activity under EU4Environment, and with funding from the European Union and the German Government.

Twenty selected national experts were invited to the online event to discuss scenarios, visions, and pathways for the future development of the Circular Economy (CE) in Ukraine. The main objective of the expert meeting is to explore the prospects for the implementation of the circular economy and to develop proposals for further activities in Ukraine. This activity is carried out in close cooperation with the project ‘Circular Economy – Promoting Sustainable Production and Consumption in Ukraine’, funded by the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine.

SCOPING THE FUTURE OF CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN UKRAINE

The 1st interactive consultation workshop Scoping the future of circular economy in Ukraine” was held online on 11 October 2023. The workshop aimed to bring together representatives of Ukrainian ministries and CE experts to discuss issues related to the strategic foresight for circular economy development in Ukraine under the EU4Environment Action, with funding from the EU and the German Government, as well as to outline the scope and analyse the challenges and opportunities for CE development in Ukraine. FORESIGHT FOR INDUSTRIAL STRATEGY IN UKRAINE: CASE STUDY ON THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY

A one-day workshop “Foresight for Industrial Strategy in Ukraine: case study on the Circular Economy” took place on 26 September 2023 in Warsaw, Poland, following an inception workshop on industrial policymaking held in June 2023.

This series of training courses are part of the project “Industrial capacity-building, policy advice and diagnostics for the green recovery of Ukraine” funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) as part of the EU4Environment Action. GREEN CHEMISTRY: INNOVATIVE APPROACHES IN THE DESIGN FOR NEW PRODUCTS

On 27 September 2023, within the framework of the International Conference on Chemistry, Chemical Technology and Ecology dedicated to the 125th anniversary of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, a seminar “GREEN CHEMISTRY: INNOVATIVE APPROACHES IN THE DESIGN FOR NEW PRODUCTS” within the framework of the GreenChem Programme (Global Green Chemistry Innovation and Networking Programme).

Tetiana Dontsova (Head of the Department of Inorganic Substances Technology, Water Treatment and General Chemical Technology at the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”) opened the seminar with a welcoming speech, stressing that highlighting green chemistry and promoting it as a science is very relevant today because “All mankind should care about improving the environment”.

GREEN CHEMISTRY IN A CIRCULAR ECONOMY (TWO TRAININGS)

On 5 and 7 September, two online trainings on “Green Chemistry in the Circular Economy” were held in Ukraine as part of The Global Green Chemistry Innovation and Networking Program (GreenChem).

The target audience of the training was professionals and researchers working on issues related to the chemical sector, green chemistry, industry, circular economy and environmental protection. The training was held on 5/09/2023 for participants with basic knowledge of chemistry. It covered the practical application of certain green chemistry approaches to minimise waste and use renewable resources in the implementation of circular economy principles. It also presented the GreenChem Program, its objectives and tools, and possible green alternatives to certain persistent organic pollutants (POPs) that are the focus of the Program. For participants with advanced chemical knowledge, the training on 07/09/2023 also covered the possibilities of molecular design to predict and reduce the hazards of chemical compounds.  Read More

PROMOTING INDUSTRIAL PARKS TRANSITION INTO ECO-INDUSTRIAL PARKS THROUGH POLICY ADVICE

As part of the Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme (GEIPP), namely the Global Eco-Industrial Parks Programme (GEIPP) – Ukraine: country-level intervention” (GEIPP Ukraine project), which aims to develop EIPs in Ukraine, the Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre (RECPC) hosted a workshop on the National Framework for EIP Designation and Monitoring on 29 August 2023 in Kyiv.

The GEIPP project is implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) and funded by the Swiss Government through the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). Read More
