The Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre held an online event “Industrial Resource Efficiency in Western Region” on November 5, 2020.

Volodymyr Popovych, regional RECP Centre’s coordinator in Western Ukraine successfully moderated the whole event.

Stepan Kuibida, the director of the Economy Department at Lviv Oblast State Administration delivered a welcoming speech, noted that the topic of the meeting was vital, and top urgent. On behalf of himself and the Chairman of the Lviv Oblast State Administration, he reported:”We do one common work and therefore our synergy will yield only positive results. Those cases that were announced to be demonstrated during the event look very positive and promising. Moreover, other companies in Western Ukraine should replicate them”. Stepan Kuibida assured that the Centre and enterprises in western region would always have total support from the Regional State Administration regarding enhancing resource efficiency. “Oblast State Administration is always ready for cooperation and communication. Because of these COVID-19 restrictions for organizing various offline conferences, seminars etc., the Administration is now looking for live events with real partners, and the Centre can easily become such a partner”, S. The RECP Centre reported on its activities and outcomes in Zaporizhzhia region on October 16, 2020, during the IVth environmental “Eco Forum – 2020”. The forum took place at the exhibition centre “Kozak Palace” (Zaporizhzhia) and lasted for 3 days (15-17 October, 2020).

The participants and the visitors of the Forum came from various ministries and agencies, the Association of Ukrainian cities, government and local authorities, foreign companies and organizations, financial institutions, scientists and academia, sectoral R&D institutes, universities and NGOs. A 2-day online training “Recycling for the Footwear and Apparel Industry” was held on September 24-25, 2020.
The training workshop is part of the specialized RECP trainings within the EU-funded programme “European Union for Environment (EU4Environment)” carried out by UNIDO as a part of its work on Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) and Circular Economy in six countries of the Eastern Partnership region: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Republic of Moldova, Ukraine. August 7, 2020 has become the day when the RECP Centre organized the online event ‘COVID-19 Impact on Ukrainian Manufacturing Companies and Assistance Required to Business Recovery’. The format of the event (PPTs and general discussion) included presentations by keynote speakers according to the agenda and involving all participants to general discussion.

The event began with welcome speeches by distinguished guests Nicolas Gigas, Deputy Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office of the Swiss Embassy in Ukraine, and Branko Dunjić, Chief Technical Advisor to the Project of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. Afterwards, Andrii Vorfolomeiev, the Director of the Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Centre in Ukraine delivered a key report on the survey results. A 2-day online training “Environmental Management Systems” was held on July 30-31, 2020 within the framework of the programme “European Union for Environment” (EU4Environment) funded by the European Union.

Johannes Fresner delivered the Workshop. He has been for years the UNIDO expert and the Executive Director for STENUM GmbH, Austria.

The RECP Centre has finalized its survey about COVID-19 pandemic impact on Ukrainian manufacturing companies, their everyday life and new needs. The survey was performed within the framework of the UNIDO Project “Promoting the Adaptation and Adoption of Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production through the Establishment and Operation of a Cleaner Production Centre in Ukraine” and with the support of Switzerland and Austria.

COVID-19 pandemic took Ukrainian business by surprise. As it turned out, among the surveyed Ukrainian companies more than 20% of those had to stop, and a little less than half of them felt difficulties in restoring normal operation. Now the business requires taxation mitigation and consulting on sales markets, organization of production to return to normal operation. At the same time, more than a half of Ukrainian companies are engaged in continuous improvement of resource efficiency in their production. Read More

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is announcing the fifth Global Chemical Leasing Award. The Award aims to acknowledge best practices, innovative approaches and ideas related to Chemical Leasing and similar performance-based business models or sustainable chemicals management. 

Because of COVID-19 pandemic and quarantine the application period is open until 15 December 2020. The Award ceremony will take place in Bonn, Germany from 5 to 9 July 2021 (date to be confirmed). It will be part of the Fifth Meeting of the International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM5).   Read More

The RECP Centre offers the first DIGEST focused on COVID-19-related issues. The digest was drafted in the quarantine period.

For years already, Ukraine has been focusing much on environment protection, improving environmental situation in cities and towns. Having signed the Association Agreement with the European Union, Ukraine has taken commitments to adopt a set of laws that have to comply with EU directives. As for waste management, Ukraine has adopted several fundamental laws, these are:

(1) the Waste Management Law;

(2) the Order #117-p dd. 20/02/2019 the National Waste Management Strategy until 2030 issued by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine;

(3) the Decree #57 dd.23/03/2017 The sanitary cleaning scheme content and components in any Ukrainian settlement issued by the Ministry of Community and Territory Development of Ukraine; Read More
